Translator’s note
The seventh track of Tokimeki Telephone Drama CD is the only serious part of otherwise thoroughly crackish compilation. Its melancholic tone almost doesn’t suit the overall mood of this drama CD, kind of makes me think that Kuwabara-sensei really couldn’t leave it all too happy...
TRACK 7
(A car arrives. Two people get out and walk in the snow.)
N: I looks like it’s been snowing...
It is said that this lake is never covered with ice, not even in the midst of winter…
Aren’t you too cold, Takaya-san?
T: Really. I thought it would be completely frozen already.
N: Shall I bring you something hot to drink?
T: I’m fine.
N: Takaya-san.
T: ...’s okay. Just...stay here with me for a while.
N: Kagetora-sama...
(Sound of little waves)
Seeing this darkling sky full of heavy clouds reminds me of Echigo1…
T: Echigo?
N: Yes. The low hills, all coated in snow, and always those dark clouds hovering above them…Although I originally come from Joushuu2, a lot more of my memories is bound with Echigo. Even now I still think of it as my home.
T: So it means...this dark sky of your memories always fills your heart…?
N: Takaya-san…
T: Then this is why...whenever I am with you...I feel...
N: You feel sadness invading your heart? Did I make you sad?
T: It’s not that.
N: Do I cause you pain, talking about our homeland?
T: It’s not only your fault.
It’s just that inside of me…always, forever…the Sea of Japan weeps.
N: And I can hear its cry…all this time…
T: Naoe...
N: I can hear it all the time, that sea storm inside of you. I keep listening to its fierce and sorrowful cries.
T: This sea...the snow can lull it into sleep...One by one, the little snowflakes fall into it, dissolve in the waves…Until finally they put this weary sea to sleep.
N: My feelings ...could they become like those snowflakes?
T: It can be that way.
N: Takaya-san...
T: Let’s go back, Naoe! The two of us! Let’s return …
…Under that sky!
